Overview

Utility-scale battery energy storage system. Current Megapack stores up to 3.9 MWh; next-gen Megapack 3 stores 5 MWh per unit and entered production in August 2026. Deployed worldwide for grid storage, renewable energy integration, and peak demand management. Tesla deployed a record 46.7 GWh of energy storage in 2025 (up 49% YoY), generating $12.8B in energy revenue. Three Megafactories: Lathrop, CA (operational); Shanghai (operational since Feb 2025); Brookshire/Houston, TX (Megapack 3 production began Aug 6, 2026, 50 GWh/year design capacity).

In production at Lathrop Megafactory since 2022 (40 GWh/year). Shanghai Megafactory operational since February 2025 (10,000 units/year, 1,000th unit produced within 6 months, first exports to Australia). The Brookshire/Houston Megafactory began producing Megapack 3 on August 6, 2026, about 16 months after groundbreaking, with a 50 GWh/year design capacity; Megablock production at the same site has not yet started. Total planned capacity: ~133 GWh/year. Tesla is also diversifying Megapack cell sourcing away from CATL and BYD: a $4.3B, three-year deal confirmed by the US government in March 2026 has LG Energy Solution build a Lansing, Michigan plant to supply LFP prismatic cells for Megapack 3 starting August 2027.
