  1. Tesla turns on Powershare backup for Model 3 and Y

Tesla's Powershare page now says Home Backup is available for new Model 3 and Model Y vehicles ordered in the U.S. and Puerto Rico on or after Oct. 1, 2026, not only Cybertruck. With Powerwall 3 and a Wall Connector, the cars can extend home backup by more than two days at 30 kWh per day; Tesla says some older Model 3 and Model Y vehicles have the hardware, Powerwall 2 and Powerwall+ support is still coming, and Model 3 and Model Y cannot sell power to the grid.

  2. Cybertruck Powershare can now back up homes with Powerwall 3

Tesla said on September 10, 2026 that Cybertruck Powershare can now run a house together with a Powerwall 3, adding more than three days of backup that the company equated to nine extra Powerwalls. Until now owners had to choose one or the other. Tesla first promised Powerwall pairing for 2025, later slipped it to mid-2026, and still requires a Universal Wall Connector and Powershare Gateway for the 11.5 kW home feed.
