Overview
Class 8 all-electric semi-truck for long-haul freight. Tesla says Semi can travel up to 500 miles on a charge, supports megawatt-class charging, has shed roughly 1,000 lb thanks to a 48V architecture and 4680 cells, and is now in early high-volume production at the dedicated Nevada Semi factory.
The first Tesla Semi rolled off the new high-volume production line next to Gigafactory Nevada on April 29, 2026, transitioning Semi out of pilot builds, but Tesla's July 22, 2026 Q2 update lists the Nevada line's status as 'Commissioning' rather than sustained high-volume output, and Tesla did not hit its original goal of reaching the line's full 50,000-unit/year run rate by the end of June 2026. Musk indicated on the Q2 call that the software will be ready for a scale-up to high production, but pointed to that scale-up landing more in 2027 than 2026; a Tesla program director has since said the line 'is now ramping.' California's HVIP program shows 89 fleets with purchase orders for 1,095 Tesla Semis as of March 31, 2026, and Swedish freight-tech firm Einride announced an additional 500-unit order on August 18, 2026 (its largest Tesla Semi deployment to date, phased in over 24 months from September 2026). Tesla will hold an invite-only inauguration event for the new ~1.7M-sq-ft Sparks, Nevada Semi factory on September 24, 2026, though analysts still estimate only about 5,000-15,000 Semis will be delivered in 2026, well under the plant's 50,000-unit nameplate capacity.
