Roadster

Unveiled

Tesla showed the next-generation Roadster on 15 October 2026 at a SpaceX test site near Waco. The company page lists three configurations: a road-ready two-seat car by reservation, a limited-release two-seat car with rear cold-gas thrusters that Tesla says goes from 0-60 mph in under 1 second, and an invite-only one-seat Rocket trim with perimeter cold-gas thrusters. Tesla says the Rocket trim can fly and is not approved for public road use, and that it is not available in all regions. Musk said production in 2028. CNBC said no purchase price was announced and that $50,000 deposits had reopened. TechCrunch said the site showed a $250,000 reservation for the thruster trim. No product image is on file in this catalog.

Unveil the next-generation Roadster with SpaceX cold-gas thrusters

Tesla set an official reveal date of October 1, 2026 after posting a Go for launch teaser with a 10.01 date on September 12 and starting a countdown on the Roadster page; Elon Musk replied that it is a New Tesla Roadster Unveil. Earlier McGregor and August targets were missed. Reporting still says a limited-edition SpaceX version would use cold-gas thrusters for a remote hover with nobody inside. Production remains slated for 2027 or 2028, and Tesla has not published price or a production start.

  2. Tesla plans driverless thruster demo for redesigned Roadster

The Information reported on August 14 that Tesla is preparing to unveil the redesigned Roadster as soon as this month at SpaceX's rocket test site in McGregor, Texas, with a limited-edition version lifting off the pavement using roughly ten SpaceX-built cold-gas thrusters mounted where the rear seats would sit. The demonstration car will be remotely operated with nobody inside because the thrusters are loud enough to risk hearing injury, and spectators will be kept a few hundred yards back. Tesla is expected to show two variants, a road-legal standard Roadster and the thruster-equipped edition, which reporting says will not be street legal.

  3. Tesla pushes next-gen Roadster demo to August on thruster delays

Tesla has slipped the public unveil of its long-promised next-generation Roadster to August or later, with The Information reporting on June 5 that the SpaceX-developed cold gas thruster system - internally code-named A71 - still needs more work after a late-April internal demo. The latest slip is at least the eighth Roadster delay since the 2017 prototype, dragged TSLA down 6.9% on Friday and put the stock on track for its worst week in a year amid broader demand and product-execution concerns.
