Spot 5.2, released in September 2026, re-architected Orbit around assets rather than inspections so it mirrors CMMS, MES and EAM systems, opened the API to third-party sensors and cameras as the foundation for an MCP layer that lets AI agents dispatch Spot, and added Gemini-powered video inspection plus detection of more than 20 gases, visual vibration analysis and partial-discharge checks. Orbit remains SOC 2 Type II certified, with cloud, on-prem Site Hub, or virtual-machine deployment, and is the shared orchestration layer for Spot, Stretch, and eventually Atlas.

Boston Dynamics has not named a customer running that agentic loop in production. Watch for a first disclosed site that actually lets an enterprise system send Spot rather than a scheduled mission.
