Commercially available since 2020. Boston Dynamics' Spot product page now says over 1,500 robots are in customer hands. Boston Dynamics shipped Spot/Orbit 5.1 in January 2026 with the new Spot Cam 2 payload (4K PTZ + thermal + 360° spherical) and door-opening workflow (2,500+ doors across 18 beta customers). Spot's AIVI-Learning inspection model became Google Gemini Robotics ER 1.6-powered on April 8, 2026. Spot 5.2, released in September 2026, re-architected Orbit around assets rather than inspections, opened the API to third-party sensors and cameras as the foundation for an MCP layer that lets AI agents dispatch Spot autonomously, and added Gemini-powered video inspection, detection of more than 20 gases, visual vibration analysis and partial-discharge checks.
