Zoox is Amazon's robotaxi company and the first operator in the United States cleared to charge fares in a purpose-built driverless vehicle with no steering wheel, pedals, or mirrors. NHTSA granted it a two-year exemption from portions of eight Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards on July 30, 2026, capped at 2,500 vehicles a year, and Zoox flipped its roughly 65-vehicle Las Vegas fleet to paid service on August 10, 2026 after nearly a year of free public rides. It designs and builds its bidirectional, four-seat, all-electric robotaxi itself at a Hayward, California plant sized for up to 10,000 vehicles a year, still runs free public rides in San Francisco while it waits on California permits, and has test fleets across ten metros. By late August 2026 Zoox had carried nearly 1 million riders and driven more than 3 million autonomous miles across its four active markets (Las Vegas, San Francisco, Austin, Miami combined), with Las Vegas alone accounting for 350,000+ riders and nearly 2 million miles; independent app tracking put Zoox at 25% of US robotaxi monthly active users in June 2026, up from 15% in January, while Waymo's share fell from 79% to 69%. In March 2026 Zoox and Uber announced a strategic partnership to put Zoox robotaxis on the Uber app - first in Las Vegas, planned for summer 2026, then Los Angeles by mid-2027 - Zoox's first third-party ride-hailing distribution deal; as of early August 2026 the Uber integration had not yet gone live, with Zoox continuing to run its own app in parallel. On September 1, 2026 Zoox said it would begin supervised (safety-driver) mapping and testing in Houston and San Diego, bringing its US test-market footprint to twelve metros. The ramp has come with safety scrutiny: a string of software recalls, most recently 105 robotaxis in July 2026 after one drove into a smoke-obscured Las Vegas fire scene, and an August 2026 report of OSHA-logged injuries among Zoox and Waymo safety-test drivers from hard braking and swerving.

Aurora Innovation is a self-driving vehicle company now focused on commercial autonomous trucking, with the Aurora Driver deployed first as Aurora Driver for Freight. After beginning regular driverless customer deliveries between Dallas and Houston in late April 2025, Aurora has tripled its driverless network to 10 routes across the Sun Belt - including a roughly 1,000-mile Fort Worth–Phoenix lane - and in May 2026 ran its first lane outside Texas, a ~200-mile Dallas–Oklahoma City route with Volvo's VNL Autonomous. By June 2026 it had surpassed 440,000 driverless miles with zero Aurora Driver-attributed collisions and 100% on-time performance. Customers now include Werner, Hirschbach, McLane (Berkshire Hathaway), Detmar, Uber Freight, Value Truck, Charger Logistics, and others, and Aurora runs both an asset-light Driver-as-a-Service subscription model (carrier owns the trucks) and a Transportation-as-a-Service model (Aurora owns and operates the trucks), with vehicle partners PACCAR, Volvo, and AUMOVIO. Q2 2026 revenue was $2M against a $270M net loss, and management reaffirmed guidance of $14-16M for 2026 with a goal of exiting the year with 200+ driverless trucks (~20-25 by end of Q3) and ~$80M run-rate.

BYD (Build Your Dreams) is a Chinese high-tech manufacturer spanning automobiles, batteries, electronics, renewable energy, and rail transit. Its auto business is unusually vertically integrated, with in-house batteries, motors, power electronics, and automotive semiconductors underpinning a lineup that now ranges from low-cost EVs and plug-in hybrids to premium Denza and Yangwang vehicles. First-half 2026 revenue fell 7.13% YoY to ¥344.82B (~$50.9B) and net profit dropped 20.54% to ¥12.33B as China NEV weakness and foreign-exchange losses outweighed overseas growth; auto-related revenue was ¥275.34B (-8.98%) while gross margin rose to 18.85% from 18.01%. H1 NEV sales were 1,808,511 (-15.72%), with the Q2 decline narrowing to 3.24% after a 30% Q1 drop, and overseas shipments of about 792,000 (+67.8%) making up roughly 44% of H1 volume. August 2026 NEV wholesales reached 440,293 (+17.84% YoY), the highest month of 2026, with a record 189,466 overseas units (43.03% of volume) offsetting still-soft domestic sales. On August 28, 2026 BYD opened its 10,000th FLASH Charging station in Shenzhen, doubling the network in under five months across 325 cities and reaching halfway to its 20,000 year-end target, with 1.83 million users (nearly one-third non-BYD). BYD's Szeged plant in Hungary began trial production in January 2026, but EVP Stella Li said in June 2026 that full-scale series production has slipped to Q4 2026 as equipment is still being installed; the same month BYD put its planned €1B Turkey (Manisa) plant on hold after Ankara withdrew tax incentives, making Hungary its top European manufacturing priority. On September 3, 2026 BYD opened its first Indonesian plant, a ~$632M, 150,000-vehicle/year facility in Subang, West Java (its 13th plant worldwide), and on September 2 BYD Semiconductor began mass-producing an in-house 4D radar chip to further vertically integrate its assisted-driving sensor stack.
